There is nothing like painting directly from nature to learn to see color, but sometimes the pressure of changing light, weather and bugs get in the way of thinking critically about composition, rhythm and emotion in our paintings. Painting in the studio allows the painter the luxury to think through the elements of the painting and not merely paint what we see, and in turn, be able to more easily put what we learn in the studio into our paintings on location. Kathie will demonstrate how to use a plein air study to create a studio painting, and will talk through her thought process as she paints.
