I was honored to be the featured artist and one of the judges for the “Between the Bluffs” plein air event in La Crosse, WI this year. There is so much to painting around this great little city. From the charming downtown, the gardens, railroads and bluffs, to the great Mississippi and its boat houses, wildlife refuges, steam boats and barges, and then the surrounding farmland. It was a fabulous show with so much variety. This is a little painting I did one afternoon while in La Crosse. I have a fondness for trains having grown up near tracks. The distant whistle and clack of the tracks tug at me as the trains pass through a town.
